PROCEDURES

Well-documented work processes (what happens) and procedures (how it happens) improve job performance, worker safety, and product quality. If properly developed, they can provide the tools needed to train future workers. Process flow charts and procedures also help supervisory and management personnel evaluate and improve on existing processes. An important part of our strategy in approaching this work is to look downstream to see how the material we document can be readily converted into training materials for classroom use or self-study. We work with management to understand their objectives; with subject matter experts to understand the process; and with employees to see first-hand how they implement the procedures. Before leaving the job, we validate the procedure to make sure it was correctly captured.

Video plays an important role in these activities. We capture video of the more complex elements of the work, so that future trainees can see how it’s done. We have developed a low-cost approach that requires very little scripting and editing, so it is very economical.
